Jesus – Christianity



Jesus is the key figure of the Christian faith. Christianity is the world’s biggest religion, with approximately 2.2 billion believers.

Jesus was born between 7 and 3 BC, and he died between 30 and 33 AD.

Jesus – Christianity

Christians celebrate Jesus’s birth each year at Christmas. He was born to Mary and Joseph, although Christians believe that God is his actual father. Mary gave birth to him in a stable in Bethlehem.

Stories about the life of Jesus are told in the four Gospels of the Bible (holy book) – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They mainly tell of his time preaching and performing miracles.

Christians remember Jesus’s death at Easter. On Good Friday, they think about how Jesus was hung on a cross to die. On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate their belief that Jesus came back to life.

This is called his resurrection. They believe that he died and rose again to forgive people from their sins (wrong things) and bring them back to God.

Fascinating fact:
During the historic Apollo 11 mission, when the first two men landed on the moon, astronaut Buzz Aldrin read some words of Jesus from the Bible and celebrated holy communion (eating bread and drinking wine to remember Jesus).

This was in the spacecraft when it had landed on the moon’s surface, July 20, 1969.
