Swinemoor Primary School Council

What is the school council and what does it do?

The school council is led by Miss Saplis and is made up of two representatives from each class, who meet each half term to discuss ways to improve the way we do things at Swinemoor Primary. Each representative has a chance to speak and after everything has been discussed on the agenda, the children vote on which ideas are the best. When the best ideas have been written down, the children then start to make changes in the school. Our school council talk to the management team, the teachers, their peers and some of their work involves the school governors too!

Who are the school representatives?

At the start of every year we run a campaign and children in each class vote on who should be elected for their class representative. Each class pick two children who they think will be excellent at voicing and expressing their class ideas to the school council. The school representatives get given a special school council badge that they can wear with pride on their uniform. When the school council have their meetings, one child minutes their meeting and then the children come back to their classes and feedback the things that were discussed. They will tell the children about any events happening in the school and any new changes they are making.

School Council Projects

Crisp Packet Recycling

The school council undertook an exciting recycling project to help the homeless. School council members asked the children who were packed lunches to recycle their empty crisp packets. Every lunch time, the crisp packets were collected in special boxes and then after collecting lots of bags worth, they sent them off to a charity who turned the crisp packets into blankets for the homeless.
