Textile linked skills – D&T
Swinemoor Primary School have been developing their textile linked skills this term as part of the Design and Technology curriculum. The whole school has been involved in the project which has resulted in creating a range of Christmas decorations which have been used to decorate the school for Christmas.
The youngest children have learnt how to weave and the key stage 1 children have made Christmas bunting and a range of Christmas baubles and presents.
The key stage 2 children have made Christmas stockings and Christmas trees. The oldest children have worked together on a joint sewing venture – making table runners and advent calendars.
The children have risen to the challenge of designing and working with a range of fabrics, learning how to sew a range of stiches and the importance of finishing techniques to improve the standard of a finished product. The children have really enjoyed tis creative topic and are waiting to hear who the competition winners are.
