Design & Technology Vision
Our School Aims perfectly capture our Vision for Design & Technology.
Achieve beyond expectations –
Every year, pupils build up to producing a piece of DT portfolio work that is, where possible, of a standard higher than that at which they would regularly work. The school is filled with stunning collections of work created by generations of pupils who attended this school.
Be proud of our community, our school, our achievements and our peers –
Design and Technology is celebrated with pride in Friday Celebration Assemblies, when graduates are regularly rewarded. Children’s homework is rewarded with golden stickers, which are displayed with pride. Design and Technology work is displayed proudly in classrooms.
Compete, with the belief that we have every chance of success –
The yearly planner details a much-loved annual Design and Technology competition ‘Swinemoor MasterChef’, as well as collaborative and DT projects. University Challenge, on the final week of the school year, includes DT graduates who compete for a trophy.
Develop a culture where we take appropriate risk, understanding this is how people learn, grow and achieve things they thought were too difficult –
Long term, high profile DT projects regularly feature, allowing children to build up to an incredibly high standard. The children invest time, and therefore risk, into their projects by repeatedly revisiting and editing their work.
Enable people to work together, in order to achieve more than we could on our own –
DT lessons and projects regularly include paired and group work.
