Year 5 and 6 Visit Cafe Velo
Yesterday Year 5 and 6 children visited Café Velo in Beverley. They were treated to a variety of buns, biscuits and a drink.
The owner Garry proceeded to give the children a talk about cycling and the many races that take place around the world.
This contained information about the distance of a race and understanding the geography of the area the race was being held in. He explained this was required to be able to know where, for example any hills might be.
As he continued he spoke to the children about the importance of nutrition, eating the correct foods and also hydration emphasising that enough calories and fluid was taken to sustain the body throughout the race.
The importance of safety was also mentioned. Garry demonstrated what a cycle helmet looked like in the past and one from the present, stressing the importance of wearing one when cycling anywhere.
Garry showed the children many different types of race clothing again some from the past and some from the present. He ran a quiz with the children, giving out prizes from drinks bottles to sweets.
The children and accompanying staff totally enjoyed the afternoon and would like to thank Garry for his time.
