Theseus and the Minotaur (Year 5/6)
Year 5/6 have been working hard to create a dance based on the Ancient Greek myth ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’. Over the past six PE sessions they have collaborated in small groups to express the different sections of the story. Children were asked to develop control, link sequences effectively and make refinements to improve their performances.
The story tells of a man named Theseus who travels to Crete in order to face the terrifying Minotaur who is kept within a labyrinth. After a great struggle, he manages to defeat the Minotaur and leaves to return home. However, he first betrays king Minos’ daughter Ariadne and flees without her. On sailing home he forgets to give his father Aegeus a signal with the sails of his boat. His father then thinks he has not survived so throws himself off a cliff.
