Mathematics Vision
Achieve beyond expectations –
Every term, pupils build up to producing a piece of Mathematics Portfolio work that is, where possible, of a standard higher than that at which they would regularly work
Be proud of our community, our school, our achievements and our peers –
Mathematics is celebrated with pride in Friday Celebration Assemblies, when Science Graduates are regularly rewarded. Children’s Mathematics homework is rewarded with golden stickers, which are displayed with pride. Mathematics work is displayed proudly in every classroom.
Compete, with the belief that we have every chance of success –
There is a weekly ‘Maths Question of the Day’ league table, where every child competes to represent their class as the winner. This is celebrated in Good Work Assembly. There is a weekly times table challenge, targeting year 4 pupils who access TTRockstars regularly in their own time. University Challenge, on the final week of the school year, includes Science Graduates who compete for a trophy.
Develop a culture where we take appropriate risk, understanding this is how people learn, grow and achieve things they thought were too difficult –
Mathematics lessons regularly include hypothesising, testing and taking appropriate risks. There is a high level of oracy within every lesson, and children are encouraged to explain their ideas, take risks with testing their mathematical theory and find new ways of solving problems.
Enable people to work together, in order to achieve more than we could on our own –
Mathematics lessons regularly include paired and group work
