Councillor Kerri Harold visits school

Councillor Kerri Harold visited our school this morning and was interviewed by pupils as well as volunteering to let the pupils sketch her portarit.

Kerri Harold bio:

I am married to Roy and have three daughters aged 15, 13 and nine. We live in Woodmansey, which is where I grew up and our girls attend schools in Beverley.

I attended Woodmansey Primary School, where I am now a Governor, and then onto Beverley High School. I thoroughly enjoyed my school years and have always loved Beverley and all it has to offer.

Since May 2007 I have had the pleasure of representing the Minster and Woodmansey Ward as one of the elected members of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

I cannot put into words how proud I felt being able to represent the ward I grew up in and where Roy and I are now raising our children.

Having teenage children does give me an insight into the concerns and comments that are frequently raised about youth provision in the town.

While I acknowledge some fantastic work already goes on, I still believe more could be done, and have been working towards this.

I have also been a member of Woodmansey Parish Council for nine years and have been involved in our parks being rejuvenated during that time. I am also a governor of Keldmarsh Primary School and Longcroft School.

During the past four years I have worked with many people and groups in an effort to ensure the voices of residents are heard. I have encouraged all Minster and Woodmansey residents to contact me with their problems and on most occasions have been able to resolve their issues.

One of my proudest achievements was finally having a pedestrian crossing installed on Flemingate near the Leisure Centre. Working with a group of ‘Lifestlers’ from St Nicholas Primary School we were able to persuade the council this was absolutely vital in ensuring the safety of youngsters. Only a small issue, but in my opinion, one that has made a big impact on those that needed it.

I was very pleased to be selected once again as a Conservative candidate for the Minster and Woodmansey ward for the forthcoming elections. I will endeavour to build on the great start which I feel has been made in my first term as a Councillor and continue to work closely with not only partners, but residents too.

We have a chance to retain Beverley’s unique character, that all Beverlonians are proud of and still keep local voices heard. I firmly believe that we need local people to represent local voices to not only listen, but hear!
